Getting started with the blockchain

Blockchain is simply a storage system, it is a technology that uses blocks holding  information, these blocks are distributed to multiple nodes (computers), when that information needs to be updated, each computer on the system has to verify that the change is genuine, then the changed information is added to a fresh block and that block is added to the existing chain.  So that to corrupt the information a bad guy would need to hack multiple computers, make multiple changes to each block in the chain and basically it's too hard and costly to try to do it, it's designed that way.

OK my one paragrah summery is simplistic and if you want to dig deeper into the tech there are plenty of great explainers on youtube.

One of the main misconceptions with Blockchain is that people belive its part of BitCoin, it isn’t, crypto currencies including BitCoin, use blockchain as a public ledger of the movements of the asset but the two things are independent.

The most important fact about blockchain is that it is decentralised, that means it is not owned by a company or government, the content is owned by the people, the contributors and it can’t be taken away or changed by any authority.
